You beat me to it. I've been an avid  Phillies fan (and I have the baseball cards to prove it) since 1956. it doesn't happen often, but it sure feels good when it does.

I'm not a big sports fan, but I'm glad to hear they made it.  I didn't think it was fair to them the way the officials postponed the game after only playing half an inning.  If it made me upset, I can only imagine how all their fans felt.  Go Phillies!

I'm not going to lie and say I've been a Phillies fan for a long period of time, but I've always pulled for them since I live here - but took a bigger interest once we got the Iron Pigs.

I despise all philly teams.
There I said it. Only Phillie I liked was Dykstra because he came from the mets and partied hard.
24 more to go to catch the yankees!

I should have added that I would like to congratulate the Tampa Bay Rays for going from having the worst record in Major League Baseball in 2007 to at least playing in the World Series in 2008.  With the Ray's young players, it seems like the Yankees may not be the AL superpower any more.  On a cost benefit analysis, it looks like the Rays are getting more bang for the buck.

I've been a Phillies fan for over 60 years, and it was about time that they won their second World Series' title over that period of time.  Well, at least next year it will be two in a row.

Just like a Yankee's fan to put down the Phillies.  ::) The Yankees spend, what is it, 10 times the Phillies (OK, maybe not 10), and they finish in 3rd place. It's nice for an underdog to win every 25 years or so. Of course, the Yankee's are my second favorite team, so I'm pretty much just pulling your leg.

I love the fact that the Yankees, and Hank Steinbrenner, were at home crying watching their revenue sharing and luxury tax dollars at work in Tampa.   LOVED IT!!     ;D

At least Scott you understand what a lot of people don't.
The yankees have a high payroll, but that gets taxed to other teams like the marlins, rays, etc.
The rays have the best pitching prospects.
When the yankees won it was homegrown talent.
The marlins, pirates, etc., just pocket the money.
In the end it balances out.

I heard that Modells and Dick's  Sporting Goods sold out of Phillies caps and shirts, but they have tons of Yankees' stuff left.  In fact I think they're selling the Yankees' stuff at 50% off.

The Marlins field competitive teams.  They actually live within their means.  They make a run, then have a house sale.  But when they sell, they get a TON of prospects and two or three years later - they make a run again.  Sucks for the fans, but it's part of the business.

Now the Pirates, they are just a horribly run organization.  They make horrible trades and the few prospects they get that work out, they get rid of before they have to pay them.

The Yankees on the other hand, get the AARP seal of approval.  They spend a LOT of money on senior citizens while their minor league system is depleted of talent.   I'm surprised they can pay these players all that money while they are drawing Social Security.   Here's a picture of the Yankees best "young" pitching prospect in the minor leagues:

Baseball finds another way to screw it up.

That game Sunday? should not have been played.
The all star "tie"
The mitchell report.

There are a few reasons for the low TV audience in this series.  Fox TV was hoping for LA and Boston to play to get the big fan base of those teams on both coasts.  Then to start all games at 8:30 p.m., even on school nights when most kids (and some senior citizens) should be in bed.  Then one game starts about 10:00 p.m., and another one is partially played during a Northeaster and finished two days later.  These things don't attract a large audience.  One night I was up to 2:00 a.m. and another to 1:00 a.m.  What kind of time is that for baseball?  Also, one game shared TV time with Penn State and another with the Eagles game.  Whatever happened to daytime baseball?  Oh well, all's well that ends well!  Have a great day!

I wish they would bring back doubleheaders. There are few, but day nights are not the way to go.
End the season three weeks earlier.
To have baseball continue when the NBA and NHL are going is crazy.
