How that look was achieved...that rendered effect of the images, especially the pic of the team in the hallway, that was backlit.

Google the "Dave Hill Look".  With some harsh lighting on the subject you can get results similar to those via Lightroom sliders.  I think there are even a few presets out there that you can download.  Dave Hill does a bit more extensive work on his - they're worth a look.
