Fall Colors are here
« on: October 08, 2008, 06:50:39 am »
Here's two from a quick trip I made to the Big Boulder area around Pocono Raceway yesterday. In some areas the colors are fantastic and will be a lot better in the next week.

I'll definitely be going back here next week.

Very nice!  I like the 2nd shot.

Chet,

I like both of these shots.  But since you put it in the critique section, here goes.

The first shot I find the weeds in the upper left corner distracting.  Perhaps they should be more of an element of interest or removed all together.

In the second shot the empty blue sky does not add anything to the composition and perhaps you could include less of it.  If there had been some attractive, puffy clouds then this much sky would add to the image.

Hope you find this helpful.  My wife and I are leaving at noon today for six days in Wayne County where the colors are supposed to be terrific right now.

I like them both as well. The first is really quite different than the changing colors we're used to seeing displayed.

As for the second and the sky, I think it would work better if the amount of sky, and the amount of sky reflected in the water, are in symmetry by being equal. The colors are beautiful. I can't wait for the fantastic colors to arrive here.

Thanks for the comments. All are good ones. I did play with the first shot a bit in CS3 and debated whether or not to post the worked over version. Here it is. I'd like to know what you think of this treatment of the first shot.

I know the one lone leaf in the top center detracts in this shot. But when viewed full sized the shape of the leaf is quit distinct and does actually add to the shot.
