March Club Meeting
« on: February 21, 2008, 06:08:03 am »
We are having a Regular Club Meeting on Thursday, March 20 at 7pm at the Banana Factory in Bethlehem, PA.

We want to try to keep the Business meeting part down so we can get on to the rest of the "Program"

What is the "Program" you ask.... Well, that is up to the members on what you would like to do for this meeting. We can set up a Studio for Portraits or we can set up a Studio for Macro or maybe both...

We want you input before this meeting so we can make it go as smooth as possible and we would love to see you all there...

I would choose one or the other. With 12 meetings a year, we can spread out the learning experiences, and might not want to use up two opportunities on one night. My vote would be to pick one and do it with more depth. Everyone might not want to learn more about every topic, but it's always good to be exposed to something new. JMO

My vote is for portraits for the first experience.  Ric, I'll help you set up. Let me know.  You are very generous to offer your backdrop and stand and lights.   :D

I could use a professional portrait...what if we did portraits of members?

portraits would be nice, do you have softboxes, grids & gels for your lights?

Also if we all have diffent camera's what do we have that all people can participate, I know there is some tool to put on your hot shoe to trigger the flashes.

I have the Background Stands and the backgrounds.
My lights are constant on lights, the spiral ones that produce 5600k each(Daylight). I have 4 with white Umbrellas and 2 smaller ones for back lights. I also have a 5 in 1 60" Reflector with a stand. No Flash Strobes or Softboxes or Gels. Didn't get that far yet. If you have them you can bring them if you want.

Again no Flash Strobes... All cameras will need to use their own flash if they need it but I really don't think they will. I would bring my big Tripod but suggest others to bring theirs just to save time.

Andy just got Flash Strobes if he wants to use them that is up to him.

I know absolutely nothing about portraits so I'd love to learn some as an observer.

Ditto here! And, though I may never do a legitimate portrait in my life, I think it could improve my candid photos, and most certainly will help me appreciate ones that I see. Great idea for the first topic.

Let's make sure we have a laptop available, so that we can see the results of the portrait session as a group.  I think that would be fun.  Then, any post processing will be up online with corrections, enhancements, etc. for review too.  VERY exciting!

Executive Board:
Let's work on topics for each meeting for the next xxx months, so that we'll have a drawing card for potential members and existing members.  The schedule for upcoming meetings can then be posted and, voila, we have huge crowds coming to the meetings and becoming members!  I also was looking at the Reading Photo Club site and they have the next million years planned out.  Well, they are more experienced to date.  But, we're on our way.

we could use the 5 in 1 to diffuse some of the light so it would be softer on the subjects, even hanging  a sheet in front of the constant lights would help soften them up to simulate a softbox.  or just move them out away from the subjects.

I don't have any lighting equipment, I took a great intro class at Dan's & when I get some money saved up I would like to buy some accessories for my speed lights to make a set up.  There are some great groups on Flickr for "Strobists" lighting

Right, Beth.  Here is the site a friend of mine recommended a while ago for lighting info:

www.strobist.blogspot.com

I learned about Cactus (remote firing for off camera lighting) on that site.  I ordered the $24 device from Hong Kong and IT WORKS!!  Who knew?
