I need your votes!!
« on: September 06, 2008, 06:50:52 pm »
Hi gang,

A few months ago I entered the “Life In The Valley” photography contest, and tonight at “The Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley”  the 30 semi-finalists (out of 712 submitted photos!!) were announced.  I am both honored and humbled to announce that I made the top 30!! The 30 semi-finalist photos will be on display for two weeks in Town Square at The Promenade Shops (the area surrounding Starbucks) for people to cast their ballots, and I would be honored if you would vote for my entry.  My photo is #22, and I have also attached it to this post for you to make a “visual” mental note.

For more information and a list of prizes, check out http://snipurl.com/photocontest

Warmest Regards,
Bryan

Jeff is a semi-finalist with the canal boat picture #03! Congrats Jeff! Well at least, I think this was his picture.

I am also a semi-finalist with a picture of a boy in the fountain at the promenade picture #19.

Congrats Bryan! Wow, three of us from the club are semi-finalist!

Feeling great that three club members had shots selected as finalists. This is one of the shots I entered, and probably the one selected.

C'mon Sandy, we showed you ours, now show us yours!  ;)

Congrats everyone but Jeff, don't the rights (or lack thereof for the Renaissance Fair) apply in this contest as well?

Not to all entrees, no, as I understand the rules, #8 below:

"8. All winning entries become the property of sponsoring organizations."

This rule is clearly stated. That's a significant difference from the contest you're comparing it to. I see this as more like a contract, where it's quid pro quo, something for something. Kinda like selling a photo with the rights attached. As I read the rules, they obtain no rights to the photo unless and until I or someone else wins.

In any case, the proceeds from entering the contest go to a very good cause, Light The Night Walk which supports researchers in their search for better therapies and cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

May I ask the significance of the question?

As discussed in another thread, I think people need to know the rules of any contest they're entering. If they are uncomfortable with restrictions and rights, if any, don't enter. If they deem the rules to be fair, then go for it. It's an individual's decision on how much or little they value their rights to a photograph. It's really that simple.

Well, as also discussed in another thread, giving up a photo for charity and to a for-profit is probably an important difference, and factor to some.

I am not questions anyone's motives just if there was a difference in the rules that I was missing.

Agreed. Now, back to the contest. It would be great to see anyone in the Club win this, and at this point, I'll be happy if any one (choke, cough  8) ) of the three of us would.
