Scott, this may be a bit off the thread's topic, but involves posting to THIS website. I see there are more and more photos being posted here (rather than links), and a random call for posting even more. So, my question is this...how does this affect space on your server? And, should we, or do we need to, encourage people to post photos on Flickr and not on here (except for contest entries and winners as agreed), and post links to photos here.

I'm thinking of our use of your personal server here, which you are graciously allowing us to use. Thoughts?

Jeff,

I don't see it as a problem right now at all.  As of now, the entire LVPC (Main site, forum, gallery) is taking up about 0.0086% of the server space allocated for the site.  I'd obviously encourage people to link instead of using attachments (you can't directly upload/paste in a forum post), and I have built in limits on attachment sizes.   I also have the ability to clean up and purge the forums.. for example, I can "purge" all threads that haven't been posted in in over 30, 60, or 90 days.   I can select all or only specific forums to do this on and I can have it ignore stickied topics - ie, Stickied topics won't be purged.   So I have alot of tools for keeping things in check.  So if you post something really necessary, I would make it a 'sticky' so it won't get purged.  But I'm pretty selective on purging and error on the side of keeping things.

The Gallery I will keep the items posted there for awhile.  If I see things starting to pile up, I'll just delete all photos except the winner in that particular album.

If the image is posted on the net at flickr or any other site, I'd ask that they be linked to.  However, if someone doesn't have access to a site right off hand, I don't mind if they use the attachment function as I mentioned, there are built in size limits that I already have set in there.

Scott, are we having any problems at the moment? I tried four times to upload my Gallery photo, using Browse, and each time it got about half done and then the website shut down as if I had lost connection. By the third try, I even reduced the file sise a bit. All four attempts were 1.8MB or less. Could it be internet traffic, in which case I should try later?

I'm not detecting any problems with the server at all... let me double check the file size restrictions and make sure it's not set to anything smaller.

Any chance the image is bigger than 1280 in size?    I have that set as a limit as well...

Hi -

I want to load a picture to the glow assignment. I have no clue where and how to do that. I was in the gallery but I could not find anything that says upload.

Goerg,

You have to be a paid member of the club in order to upload to the gallery.  Once paid in full, you will be added to the "LVPC Members" Group.   As of right now, you haven't been added to that group.  If you can let us know if you sent payment or have paid, I can confirm with Jeff and then simply add you to that group so that you have access to the upload option in the gallery.

Thanks,
Scott

Georg,

Just as an update I was notified that you are a paid member and I have added you to the member group so you should now have the ability to upload on the gallery.   When you visit the gallery, select the '@' button and you should see the link to upload your image.

Thanks,
Scott

Hi, Georg paid my membership fees as well, but now I can't upload a picture to the contest either.  :(
Could you please provide access for me?
Thanks
