Please help in teaching me how to crop this to scale it up without losing detail.  I am at a bit of a loss.

full size image is on my website.

After looking at the full size image you should be able to crop that to an 8x10 with no problem.. You use ACDsee as your editor? Or do you use PhotoShop. Either way crop it to the lower right of your screen leaving the rest of the screen Black. You do not want to take too much of the black out as it will just not look the same anymore. I have done many Moon shots and it is always better to leave that Black in. Use your rule of 3rds on this... Try a few and you will see. Sharpen very little if you must after you are done...

Looks very well too, I must say...

Thanks.
My concern is when cropping, to keep the file size high.
It always wants to reduce it to like 100kb (its a 5 mb file)
Do I crop, then scale the image up to get a closer shot of the moon?
It was shot at 400mm.  After many attempts, I didn't think about one think.
The moon is a moving object and slow shutters weren't working  :D

With LIGHTROOM you wouldn't have this problem.   :P

If it is a RAW file you should be able to crop it and then save it with no problem and still keep a big file size but you will lose some size no matter what. You can always buy an enlarger like I have but is it worth it for 1 picture?

Yes, Scott is right about lightroom can do it... Sorry I had to admit that... ;D

I would like 8x10, the full size file is on my website under favorite photos
you click on the file, and at the top it has an option to see the original size.
This is a jpg though.  I will look for the raw file tonight.

Thanks.

Even in JPG, I can play with it in Lightroom.   Let me know if you are still having problems getting what you want and I'll play with it in Lightrooom if you'd like.

Thanks for the reminder!  I usually try to get out on full moons and one or two of the partial phases each month.  Here's the view from Bethlehem. =P
