Here is a link to Lehigh County's webpage on Lock Ridge Park:

http://www.lehighcounty.org/Recreation/rec.cfm?doc=rec_lockridge.htm

Also see comments and photos in this Forum under "Locations" for a great sense of the natural beauty here.

Jeff is trying to coordinate a date for a private tour of the Furnace Museum for Club Members and Guests.  Lock Ridge Park itself is open 7 days a week but the Anthracite Iron Furnace Museum is only open on weekends from 1 -- 4 pm.  Admission is FREE!!!!!

This site was chosen because it is a favorite shooting spot for many of the members and because there is so much activity on the Forum pages about it.  There is a creek there and a stone bridge and plenty of photogenic landscaping by the looks of the photos Members have submitted.
This is the Location of the Month and as usual, you can shoot Lock Ridge Park anytime during the calendar month of May at your convenience, or come along to the Group Shoot.  As soon as we get a date and time from the Park Management, we will post it. Please post your favorite photos of our Location of the Month to our LVPC Flickr site or to the Gallery on this website  (Gallery photo size limit is 2 MB).

And again, if you have a favorite shooting spot in the Lehigh Valley and environs, please start a new topic in Locations and tell us about it!!!  Member input is how we decide what locations people are most interested in for the Group Shoots.

For Newbies-----The Monthly Location Shoot is both a Group get-together on a specific date and time and also the location that you can shoot all month long at a time that is convenient for you, even if you weren't able to join in the Group Shoot that month.  Group Shoots are usually on weekends and we understand that some people can't take away from their family time or they have to work on weekends so we've made it that you can go to the Monthly Shooting Location at anytime during that month at your convenience and then upload your photos to the LVPC Flickr website/Gallery along with everyone else's.  Also, the photos must be photos taken at that Location during that calendar month so no photos you took last year!!

If you have questions/comments about Location of the Month, please email us at:  events@lvphotoclub.org

Why can't we go to Mayfair too?  Isn't that over the holiday weekend?

We could do Lock Ridge early in May....and Mayfair on Sat, May 24th......
(But NOT 2 weekends in a row...) OR, could it be arranged instead to do
Lock Ridge in June??

I know the members will like Lock Ridge BUT I'd hate to miss out on such a good PR
event like Mayfair. It could potentially bring in members.

Ric, After emailing my friend & leaving 2 vmails, I found out she's on vacation. Will
try her again early in the week.  :D

I like the idea of Lock Ridge Park earlier in May.  Mayfair is great but that is also the big Memorial Day holiday and many people are traditionally either having parties and family reunions that weekend or heading down the shore.
I am all for having a group of us at Mayfair with our shirts and badges taking photos and handing out cards.  It sounds like fun for everyone and I'm sure we can get some new members.
Teresa--that will be fantastic if you can come up with coupons for everyone!!!  Wow!!!  That will take a bit of the bite out of the gas prices lately!!  Even in Phillipsburg, NJ this morning I saw gas at $3.30/gallon!!!  In Forks Twp this morning it was $3.45 for regular and a whopping $4.45 for diesel fuel!!!

As just one member of the Events Committee, I'm in agreement with Loretta on this one. I see Mayfair as a great opportunity to have a presence, but having attended it a few times, there's nothing I'd particularly want to shoot. No reason we can't do both in May. (I'll be away that week, so it doesn't matter much to me.)

This fits in with an idea to have one monthly shoot and another monthly "suggestion" for an event or location to shoot. There is enough going on in the Valley that we could easily come up with another optional event to shoot each month. If the event is "big" enough, we could choose that as our monthly shoot. The committee has developed an extensive list of events and locations, so we'll be working on a schedule for the future.

As in the Newsletter, we will be meeting at Lock Ridge Park at 1 pm on Saturday the 10th of May.  If it rains more than just showers, we can meet and then decide what else to do.

I'm hoping to be there for a least part of the afternoon. It's not far from me at all.

Everyone attending, remember to bring bug spray, sunscreen, and good walking/hiking
shoes if you want to walk the paths and along the creek.   :)

I can't wait to see that beautiful stone bridge over the creek!!  I've been intrigued by everyone's photos of it.

At that time of day, we should hit it right to see the full circle bridge reflection too.   :D

Weddings are often held in the remains of the building that I showed in this month's newsletter.

Hi Everyone,

I am planning to go on Saturday, but I have to work in the morning so I will try to make it for 1 pm.
I might be a little late.

Guided tours usually start at the 2 small brick buildings on top of the hill by the parking lot and then go to the furnace house. After the tour of the furnace you are on your own to explore the rest of the complex.
