Re: Assateague in October- New Date

We have changed the date for the Assateague Trip to October 23-24 since we thought traffic and getting a hotel room would be a nightmare because of the convention.  If you are interested in going down on Saturday and spending the night, we recommend checking into reserving a room ASAP.  There are many hotels along the beach in Ocean City, MD.  When Tony and I went in May, we were able to reserve a hotel room that allowed us to walk right out onto the boardwalk at a reasonable rate.  It should be even cheaper in October.

Great! I made my reservation. (Grand Hotel $130/3 people)  To make booking your room easier, use http://oceancity411.com/   ;D

Once we get a count of who is staying overnight, I can call BJ's on the Water and book dinner reservations for us.
(A family owned restaurant that has been there for years!) http://www.bjsonthewater.com/

I'd like to set up the meet-up time for 7:00AM Saturday at the WaWa by the Quakertown Turnpike entrance.
WaWaStore #8021 - 1960 John Fries Hwy. (Route 663) Quakertown, PA 18951

It will take us about 3 hours to get to Ocean City area from there (depending on traffic).

Things I would recommend for the trip:  8)
A sweatshirt or light jacket. Even if it is warm, the island can get windy.
Chapstick is a must too because of the salt air.
Don't forget bug repellent of some sort.
Good walking/hiking shoes or boots.

Any questions, you can post it here, email me or message me through the forum.

I just made reservation for a bunch of us at the Sandpiper Dunes Condominiums.  They had multi-bedroom condos with some bedrooms with multiple beds, so really made the price cheap.  Don't know if anyone else wanted to check this out...they had two bedroom condos left (I think I took the last 3, but maybe not).  Splitting the condo made it under $50 per person.

Does anyone want to leave earlier then 7AM? Just curious.....

I'd like to start the list/count of those staying overnight so I can make dinner reservations if everyone wants to eat together. Also, if you want to photograph sunrise on the beach in Ocean City, let me know so we can plan for it.

Hi there.  My name is Sheri and I just signed up for the club.  I am very interested in the October shoot and am an early riser.  I live in the Wilkes-Barre area and wonder if there are individuals sharing rooms or if the rate is relatively inexpensive.

My email address is SLP0268@aol.com.  Anyone is welcome to say hi and introduce themselves and give me some advice.

Hi Sheri,

Accommodations are on your own. You can book thru oceancity411.com - I got a room for 3 in my family for around $139 at the Stowaway Grand. Their basic rooms were $80 plus 10% room tax. Anyone who is a paid member can go on the trip - there is no limit to the number going. (Some are only going down for the day Saturday.)

Once your membership is confirmed by our Treasurer & Membership Chair, you can sign up here for the trip. There are details and links in this thread. If you have any other questions, ask them here and I will answer them for you.....

So far we have 4 (and 1 potential) signed up here and 2 others on Facebook.

I know more are attending....please let me know here and/or on Facebook (see the events tab on the club's page). I also sent out an invite through Facebook and you can rsvp that way.

If I have an idea of the # attending, I can call the ranger's station to see if 1) we can get a group rate instead of paying by car to enter the island and 2) see if they will do a program or make a packet of materials for us.

Let me know ASAP!   ;D

TJ,

Is that the condo I heard about?  I definitely would love to stay the night and if there are any singles that want to split a room that would work.  I would also like to ride with someone if there is availability.  Thanks!

The name of the condo is the Sandpiper Dunes.  So far I have myself, Rhonda, and Stephanie confirmed, with Sandy and I believe Sheri as potentials, awaiting confirmation.  I may have to come down later in the day since I may have to shoot some photos in the morning - waiting on the customer.  But if not I will be leaving early....always room in my car.  I probably won't make dinner plans until I get there.  I would think this time of the year we would have no problem getting dinner reservations anywhere we want.

Judy,

I am all in.  This will more than likely be my very first group shoot.  I am starting to browse everyone's photography and have to say there is great talent in this group.  We can always figure out driving arrangements at the October 21 meeting.  I am soooo looking forward to meeting all of you.

I am with Judy on the dinner reservations.  Since we will only be there for a short time, I would like to make the most of our trip.  I would like to be flexible because I might want to take sunset pictures.  If we make a fixed reservation, then we will be tied down to a specific time.
