1st June Event--CAMP GEIGER--Sat & Sun June 12 & 13th
« on: June 04, 2010, 02:27:36 pm »
Camp Geiger is a Civil War Reenactment in Whitehall Twp. that our Club has been photographing for the past two years, this will be our third.
Our Club will have a tent set up for shade and a place to hang out to cool off/get out of the rain.

This is a link to the Event:    www.campgeiger.org

This is a link to the brochure:    http://www.campgeiger.org/CG_Brochure_2010.pdf

The field opens to the public at 9 am Saturday and Sunday and the event is over at 3 pm on Sunday.  Be aware that this event involves walking on hilly terrain and the past two years it has been hot.  It is in a field so bring bug spray and sunscreen and wear appropriate footwear.

We do ask that you submit one or more images of your choice to the Club to be given to the Camp Geiger group for their use.  LVPC will put the images on a DVD and send it to the Friends of Camp Geiger.

Check back for exact meeting times and place.  Of course Camp Geiger is open to the public and you can go anytime during the weekend that is convenient for you.

STAY  TUNED  FOR  MORE  INFO!!!

COME OUT TO THE CLUB’S JUNE 12th EVENT – CIVIL WAR DAYS

For each of the last two years our June event has been photographing the Lehigh Valley Civil War Days, held at the Whitehall Parkway Recreation Area on South Church Street. Once again we have been invited back and given a spot to put up out tent and hang our banner. However, our purpose there is to photograph the event, not to “sell” the club. As such, we wander around the camp and take shots (photographically speaking, of course) at will. Our tent provide us shade…bringing a folding chair is optional.

This year it opens up on Saturday, June 12th at 9:00am. This has given club members an opportunity to shoot something different and interesting, as well as expose the existence of our club to potential new members. So, come out part or all of the day and try some creative shots of the event. Don’t forget to WEAR YOUR LVPC BADGE. Following the event, those who wish to contribute some of their shots to Friends of Camp Geiger, the event sponsor, may do so by submitting them to the club on a disk. In the past, we have transformed collected shots into a slideshow for their use.

If you’ve been there in past years, you know there is always something interesting to shoot. If you haven’t experienced such an event, come out and enjoy the day. Check out the forums for photos and comments from past Civil War Days. To learn more about this Civil War encampment visit www.campgeiger.org

The camp opens at 9:00 this Saturday, and closes at 3:00pm on Sunday, though set up on Saturday daylight hours only. Admission is free for all.

The schedule for Saturday is as follows:
9:00am Camp opens to the public, Morning Parade
10:30am-12:00pm Battle Demonstrations and Drills
11:00am-5:30pm Entertainment
12:30pm Lincoln’s grand arrival parade and address to the troops
3:30-4:30pm Afternoon Public Battle
7:00-8:30pm Twilight Tours

The camp is also open on Sunday at (9:00am with a dress parade, with an afternoon battle held from 1:00-2:00 pm

Directions: http://www.campgeiger.org/directions.html
At Whitehall Parkway, North on Route 145 (MacArthur Road), about 6.5 miles North of Route 22, left at light onto S. Church Street, proceed until you see it on the right side by the red caboose.

I will be there shortly before 9am setting up the tent and banner. One extra pair of hands would be appreciated.

I don't have many photos printed from 2009, but I will bring a few to hang, and some of mine we hung last year if needed.

What I do need is for someone to bring LVPC flyers and business cards for those who ask for them. I don't have ANY, and it would be a shame to miss out on any interested new members. Anyone out there on Membership?

I also don't have a good outdoor folding table (borrowed one from family last year but he won't be there), but I will bring something if no one is bringing one. If you come for any or all of the day, bring a folding chair and sit awhile in the shade.

Thanks for listening.

I'm sorry that I won't be able to make it on Saturday but will try to make it on Sunday. I will be a food judge at the Blues, Brews, and Barbeque in Allentown on Saturday.

Well, the rain held off, but not the heat, as about 8-10 LVPC members made it to Camp Geiger this year. The tent was up from the 9am opening until close to 6pm. We had a number of preple stop by to chat, several who said they'd be at one of our upcoming meetings, and one who wanted help fixing his camera. Well, we tried.

While our turnout was down from last year, I hope those that attended will consider once again submitting their photos on a cd or dvd for compiling into a dvd to give to Camp Geiger. Perhaps we can show some of the shots from today's event at an upcoming LVPC meeting.

We'll start a thread under SHARE YOUR IMAGES to display some of your favorite shots here.

I went out early Sunday morning and took a few pics of camp life. I spoke to some of the folks out there, Jeff and Tom's brother included, and they asked me about a photo book of the pictures. I would be more than happy to make a blurb book for them with our pictures and give each member full credit for his/her pictures. Just let me know if you are interested...

Bob talked to me about the value for us of putting a book together for sale. The problem with that is the Club's status as a social club, which I don't think would allow us to sell items for "profit". The issues are not being a registered non-profit organization and sales tax issues. I don't believe those are areas we'd want to get into at this time, but if anyone knows how we can do it, go for it.

We could put a book together for them and they can purchase if off of Blurb. We can sell it for book cost therefore no profit is made.

FYI! For those in need of Camp Geiger photos. I left a CD-ROM with Ed Vatza at the LVPC meeting this evening.

I would like to collect member's photos from Gamp Geiger for use by the organization, as we have done the last two years. Unfortunately, I was unable to make last months meeting. For those who were at the event, please consider putting some shots on a CD or DVD and bring them to the next meeting or event. Copies will then be made and passed on.

We might consider showing a "slideshow" compilation of these photos at an upcoming LVPC meeting.

Thanks.
