***NEW INFO***  Meet in the parking lot of Lock Ridge Furnace Park at 9 am.***  There aren't any tourguides in the park until May so we are on our own but there are lots of plaques explaining the ironmaking process used there, as well as a National Park Service guide in the links below.

A favorite shooting spot for many members of the Club!!  The park includes several buildings and the ruins of an iron furnace.  If you are interested in history, they have guides to explain the different buildings on the grounds.  We picked the middle of April because the grape hyacinths (bluebells) will be in full bloom.

This will most likely be a morning shoot.  Want to meet for breakfast beforehand or afterwards?  Please reply below.

This is a great place for photography. You will find everything from architecture to nature to shoot! Hopefully the grape hyacinths with be in bloom (should be!)

Here are a few samples of photos that I have taken there!

Are we getting a tour inside the furnace?  :)

They gave us a very nice tour last year. I agree, lots of neat stuff to shoot at the park. It's 10 minutes from my home, so I stop by there periodically.

Many stone structures that are great for backdrops for portraits.  Love it.

They don't man the welcome center until the May so someone will need to call to arrange a tour for us.

From the National Register of Historical Places website:

The Lock Ridge Furnace Museum is located at 525 Franklin St, in Alburtis. The hours are Saturday-Sunday, 1:00pm to 4:00pm, May-September. Call 610-435-4664 or visit the Lehigh County website for more information.

We are to have a few cool days this week so maybe the flowers will last at Lock Ridge....they were really colorful this weekend.

There's no posted time for the start of this photo walk.  :-\

I'm just 10 minutes away and can be there early.

I called about a tour and IF a tourguide is available, it would cost the club $50.  There is plenty of info on plaques around the park and info available on line if someone is interested in the history of the iron-making there.

I'd say early for this shoot---make it 9 am officially and early birds can come whenever.  Hopefully the weather will be cooperative.

At first I thought that the $50 charge was a change from last year. But, in looking back, we went in May last year and that's when they begin manning the information building for the season. I can give the tour for free. :D

Their tour is just inside the furnace stack, a side room that is a mini museum of tools, and the "iron pig" room. You can peek in the windows to see what's inside for the most part. The only thing missed would be looking up & photographing the furnace stack which several of us have done.

I'll be there at 9AM hanging out either in the parking lot off of Franklin Street or in the bluebell field (if they are still there).

Weddings are awesome here, Tim! I saw one complete with bagpipes and the groom riding in on a white horse.  ;D
