Hey Tj, I've been a little remiss in hitting the critique forum. My mind has been elsewhere... mostly eBay where I have been selling some fly fishing gear to raise money for a new Canon 5D Mark II. I've now reached my goal and beyond. Once the monies clear into my account (Monday), I will be ordering the new camera probably from Adorama since I am now an Adorama Affiliate.
On to the critique. There are several things that I think could improve this image. First, I tend to prefer stems to enter the frame from an angle rather than straight up from the bottom center. All it takes is rotating the camera and you've accomplished that.
Second, I am not really keen on the split color background. I would have tried to move one way or the other to get either a green background or a yellow background. My preference would be the yellow background. I think you could do some interesting things with a yellow on yellow composition.
Finally, the flower itself appears a bit drab. I would really like to see it pop more. Maybe a bit more contrast and a bit more saturation. Did you shoot this with the vision of creating a soft image of the daisy? I ask because to my eye, the flower needs to be sharper... at least some part of it maybe the center.
I temper all this by saying that I personally find yellows and red to be the most challenging to work with.
I hope this helps, Tj.
Now a Longwood question. What are the blue flowers that everyone is all hopped up about that bloom in March?
