It's looking like I'll be out of town Thurs-Sun this weekend, so I won't be able to make it after all.  I look forward to seeing everyone's photos, though!

Lee,
My calendar is all screwed up.  I am booked on the 18th, which I thought was Saturday.  I got to stop working the long hours and get my priorities straight.  Hope you guys have a great time.

Early is going to be really early.  You have two options.  If you want to catch sunrise (if it is not too cloudy), then meet at 5 am in the parking lot at commuter lot located at Freemansburg Ave and Rt. 33.  The weather forecast is calling for COLD, and possible showers, so dress appropriately.  I would suggest bringing a large golf umbrella to clamp to your tripod.  If you are not so hardy you can meet us at Hidden Lake at whatever time you want.   The link is here for the map

http://www.nps.gov/PWR/customcf/apps/maps/showmap.cfm?alphacode=dewa&parkname=Delaware%20Water%20Gap%20National%20Recreation%20Area

Again, dress warm.  You may want to bring additional warm clothing in case you get wet.

My guess is that we will shoot until 9 or 10, depending on the cold.  We will then go somewhere to get warm and have some breakfast.

If you are meeting at 5, let me know so I wait for you.

One of my favorite locations at the gap is at the little beach just off the rt. 80 bridge heading East just on the NJ side.  Not many people even know it's there but the foliage and the cliffs are beautiful.  I haven't taken any shots in Fall, but I'm sure it will be spectacular!  Here's an example:

What restaurant are we going to?  Some may want to meet up with the group there.  The early birds can show off their photos to everyone.  As soon as we decide on the restaurant, we will post it with directions and address.

Early birds----there has been some confusion about the meeting place.  Early birds will meet at 5 am in the commuter lot at PA 33 and William Penn Hwy/Easton Ave.  It is just south of US 22 in Bethlehem Twp.  It is the parking area for the commuter buses to NYC.

Our reservation is for 1 pm on the Trolley.  In the beginning post I've asked everyone to assemble at the parking lot at the light in DWG on PA 611 at 12:30 pm.
If we eat at 9:30 or 10 am, that should be plenty of time to get down to the trolley ride.  Hopefully by the time of the trolley ride the rain should be cleared out and we should be able to get some nice foliage photos on PA 611 and on our way home too.

Early birds-----remember to take a group photo!!

I can not make the trip.
I will be in NYC at the AKC's "Meet the Breeds" event working at the Bernese Mtn Dog Club of America's booth w/my boy Flurry.
160 breeds of dogs & 41 breeds of cats will be there for people to come & see & meet

Guess I'll have to take some fall shots in the city that day  ;)
Have a great trip!

Here's a map of two excellent photo stops.  Smithfield Beach on top and Kittatinny launch on the bottom.  Kittatinny is easily reached by going over the I80 bridge though the gap to the NJ side and taking the very first exit... on river rd.

This photo was taken from Smithfield Beach during mid-summer

and this one was shot at Kitatinny beach during the same time frame

This panorama was taken from the NJ side at one of the boat ramps near van campens glen.

This stiched panorama was taken on the NJ side at Van Campens glen:

All of these are in easy reach from the water gap!

This is a map of George Childs state park, North of Dingmans Falls off of rt. 209 and Silver Lake Rd.  Childs park boasts several beautiful waterfalls and vistas within easy reach of the parking area!

Here are some views of the falls there:

Photos that are taken within the confines of the National Park are eligible to be entered in the "Share the Experience" Photo contest.  The link is here:

http://nationalparks.promo.eprize.com/experiencecontest2009/

The prizes are very nice.  You can also review last year's winners, as well as this year's submissions.  Hidden Lake is within the confines of the Park, so any photos taken there will be eligible.

See you Sunday morning early.  Remember to wear shoes that will keep your feet dry or to bring a change of footwear if your feet get wet.  When I shot last year, cold feet and cold hands were the number one complaint.  Don't forget about thin gloves.  If you use the gloves with the removable fingertips, remember to put thin gloves on underneath.

I'd love to tell you that the storm will end and we'll have cool sunny skies for Sunday....BUT....

The forecast up there is for snow...winter storm watch and an accumulation of multiple inches tomorrow, ending perhaps Sunday morning...  With heavy snow and the leaves still on the trees, there will probably be trees down and very slippery driving through those roads that we would probably be taking by the Delaware.  Usually, in the midst of snow, they close those river roads that go trough the park.

BUT... we're gonna have a lot of fun!  So, dress up warmly and bring some snow boots!
