How was this done?
« on: September 23, 2009, 06:45:34 am »
Hi gang,

I came across this image in Flickr, and I was completely blown away. I thought it was an HDR image, but about halfway down the the thread someone mentions a "7 shot DRI treatment." The link to the image is http://www.flickr.com/photos/11370723@N03/2505368899.

Is this a form of HDR, or something completely different? Either way it is a beautiful image.

DRI stays for Dynamic Range Increase, that is similar to HDR. One of examples how to do it manually - here: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/digital-blending.shtml

Those pics always look so surreal. I'm usually not a fan of HDR - I am much more of a "shoot and let it go" kinda guy - but that looks simply amazing, verging on a painted look.

Greg,

I have to agree with you, there seems to be a "rawness" if you will that is lost with HDR when taken to that extent. I, like you, am a "shoot and let it go" guy as well, and really have no use for HDR at this point in my photography.

Thanks for the reply,
Bryan
