August Location Shoot of the Month
Sunday, 23 August 2009,
State Museum in Harrisburg
Time: Noon (open 12-5 pm on Sundays--Tues--Sat 9am to 5 pm)
Let's meet at the big (18 foot high) William Penn Statue

The State Museum/William Penn Memorial Museum in Harrisburg has 4 floors of amazing comprehensive exhibits about Pennsylvania. Flash is allowed, but no tripods.  It is centrally located downtown next to the State Capitol and only 3 blocks from the beautiful Susquehanna Riverfront.  Within several blocks in any direction there is awesome architecture and street photography.  There is something here for everyone, no matter what you like to shoot!

Website:   www.statemuseumpa.org
Address for GPS:  300 North Street, Harrisburg, PA   17120
Admission:  $3 for adults, $2 children and seniors

The website has good driving directions but I suggest that you take I-78 west to I-81 south and then go downtown by using I-83 south, avoiding the Farm Show Arena area on the north side of town.

Parking info:  Metered parking all around museum is FREE on weekends.  The closest parking garage is the South Street Garage one block away.  They are open 7 days, 7am-7pm.  No Credit Cards accepted at garage!  Rates as follows:  <2 hrs--$4, <3 hrs--$6, <4 hrs--$7, <5 hrs--$8.

Exhibits:  changing Fine Arts Gallery, hands-on  children's area, home decorating styles/textiles over the centuries, 18th century Market Square with various life size craftsman's shops, Industry, Technology, Transportation, Military History, Geology and Fossils, Native American exhibits, African American exhibits, Hall of Mammals (stuffed) showing actual habitats (the beaver lodge is awesome!) and of course the Planetarium, offering two shows on Sunday, a children's presentation at 1 pm and one for older kids and adults at 2 pm about SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence).  The Planetarium shows must be paid for in advance at the information booth---$5 adults and $4 children and seniors.

This is our August Location Shoot of the Month.  Since it was announced late, our Share Your Images thread for your photos will include any photos taken during the calendar month of August of "PA History" as well as any photos taken of the State Museum or downtown Harrisburg during August.
