Flickr - exposure to the world!
« on: March 25, 2008, 08:20:43 pm »
Ric had mentioned that his photos of parrots will appear in a book because of Flickr and "tags" for his photos. He said that writers, publishers, researchers scan Flickr for photos.   It's true.  I posted photos of Woodstock 1969 on LVPC and someone contacted me who is interested in using my photos in a book to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the festival.  He also was interested in an essay that I wrote of my experiences there. (It was published in the Morning Call about 9 years ago along with several of my photos.)  This book will be different, he says, because it will be from the attendee perspective.  Check out his website:  www.woodstockpreservation.org.  He hopes to have the publisher start a website for the book in order to solicit interest and photos, memories, etc.  Interesting!  ;)

I don't know, but this seems wrong to me.  Are these book publishers going to be giving away their books for free?  I don't think so.  So why should you folks be giving away your images for free?   Adding a photgrapher credit doesn't cost them a thing.  It just seems like a way to avoid paying the going rate to photgraphers who look to make their living (or part of) from photography.  Unless it was a charity, which I supported ther goals, I would not give away an image simply for a credit.  But then now one is asking me either. ;)

Just my 2 cents,
Ken

Payment was not discussed; that would come later if my photos will be included for sure.  I understand your feelings THOROUGHLY, Ken.  However, it looks good on a photography resume to have credits in publications.  After all, we have to build a portfolio.  Then, when your photos are in demand....that's another story.  At the least, you get a free book!!
