Salutations and Greetings to all, I am novice. I have a Nikon D-70 with two 2 GB memory cards. How do I format them ? Remember I am a novice. Thank you for your time and your consideration in this subject matter.

I'd highly recommend taking a read through your camera's manual.  As a novice, you'll learn boatloads of information about your camera that you may not have even thought to ask about, and I'm sure there's a section on formatting cards.

If you don't have it, Nikon has a copy on-line at http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/manuals/dslr/D70_en.pdf

With my camera, Olympus E30, I go through the menu to:  card, format, yes.  Simple as that.  I do a format each time I want to clear my card after downloading.  I was told that was the best way to keep the card "clean" from extraneous info and to maintain the capacity.

I agree with what Lee said about formatting. I just want to add though, I strongly advise that you back up your images on a secondary device, disc or another hard drive, as soon as possible. If possible, download and back up before formatting your card. Once you format, your info is gone.

I have downloaded images onto my PC, reformatted my card, then later accidentally erased my images before backing them up somewhere else. Its a bummer and a lesson learned that I hope you don't experience.
