For all of you with Spring Fever or that love flowers, this is your shoot!!  Everything should be in full swing at Longwood Gardens with an abundance of bulb blooms and flowering trees and shrubs.

The date is Sunday, April 19th. ****MEET  IN  PARKING  LOT @  LONGWOOD @ 9 am**** The Events Committee did not set a time---since it is further away than normal, perhaps we can organize some carpools and meet in the Longwood Gardens parking lot at a set time.  I recall in a previous post that tripods need to be registered and are allowed until noon.  Meeting at 9 am would give several hours of tripod shooting time.  ****See later posts about Tripod Permission slips.****

If you are interested in going, please sign up here on the Forums or email:  Events@lvphotographyclub.org    and we will try to set up some carpooling and a definite time to meet that is satisfactory for most.

I'm back, I still speak virtually no Spanish and have no tan, but I'm in for Longwood Gardens. I did manage to take a few orchid shots on vacation; I'll post them on Flickr.

Hi,

Count me in. Are mono pods considered the same as tripods?

When I was there last, monopods were allowed at any time, with tripods only allowed in the morning (no legs for others to trip over). I'm sure we can get this information checked to see if there has been a change.

Is meeting at Longwood in the parking lot at 9 am good for everyone? If we have 15 or more we can meet in the Group Reception Area.

I'll be driving with my sister and niece.  Can anyone else carpool together or do you prefer to drive separately?

Here is the Longwood Gardens website:
www.longwoodgardens.org

Here is their directions page:
www.longwoodgardens.org/Directions_1_2_4.html

If you are using GPS, here is their actual street address:
1001 Longwood Road, Kennett Square, PA   19348

Regular Admissions:  $16 Adult, $14 Senior 62+, $6 Student
Group Rate (15 or more together):  $12 Adult, $11 Senior 62+, $3 Student

PLEASE  BRING $12.00  CASH  SO  WE  CAN  PAY  ADMISSION  TOGETHER!!!!  We will be getting one admission free so we will all be getting some change back, depending on how many people are in our group.

So far we have 9 people, but if we can get together 15 people, we are eligible for their Group Rate.  There is a separate reception and restroom area for Groups, as well as a $3 or $4 discount off each ticket, so see if your neighbor, friend or spouse would like to join us!!!  ****Please sign up on the Forum thread or by emailing:  Events@lvphotographyclub.org so we know how many are definitely coming and if we will be eligible for the Group Rate.****

That weekend at Longwood is Kite Flying Weekend so weather permitting, it should be an excellent photo op!
From the website:  Enjoy the art and skill of kite-flying on a special weekend full of fresh air, colorful kites and fun for the whole family!
The Pocono Kite Symphony takes over the expansive Cow Lot, filling the air with colorful and unique kites.  Kids can join the fun by making their own kites. Fee for kite-making kit is $3.50.

****REMINDER:  IT IS  VERY  IMPORTANT THAT  YOU  SIGN UP  FOR THIS EVENT SO WE CAN MAKE A GROUP RESERVATION IF WE HAVE A LARGE ENOUGH  GROUP!!!!!

Thanks----Events Committee (Loretta Killian, Sandy Gelatt, Jeff Grim, Rhonda Pagano, Judy Zabrecky)

I'll be going down with my wife, as we have plans for the rest of the day in that area.  We'll meet at 9am unless it's changed.

Re: April Location Shoot--Longwood Gardens--***NEW INFO*** Tripods
« Reply #14 on: April 07, 2009, 03:36:22 pm »
When I called Longwood Gardens to ask about the Group Rates I also asked about the tripod permissions and she said there is a link on the website to a form to fill out and to just leave the form at the main info desk.  There are also forms available at the desk.  On the weekend that we will be there it probably won't be super-busy and she said that tripods after noontime should not be a problem and that people should use their own good judgment that they are not causing a hazard where they are shooting.
I guess that regulation is basically for during holiday times and special events and they relax it for normal weekends, which is why several Club members have used tripods all day there with no problem.
Either way, if you are going to bring a tripod, print out the form and leave it at the info desk when we go in.
I am also looking into seeing if we as a Club can have some of our photos displayed at Longwood Gardens for a period of time after our shoot, like we do at the Banana Factory.
