What are your interests outside of photography?
« on: February 29, 2008, 08:40:59 am »

The reason I pose this question is this:

I mountain bike, or I used to...a lot.
If someone wanted to practice action shots for instance, I could ride past a spot where people could photography me crashing.

It seems that the brothers Grim (couldn't resist) like playing golf.  Maybe they wouldn't mind taking practice swings for us to capture these types of shots.

Its just a thought to get our outside activities involved with the club somehow.

If someone has kids (or grandkids) in an upcoming play, etc., then maybe thats something a few would like to photograph.

What does everybody think?

But your momma probably doesn't like scars! I went through the same thing with my boys doing BMX biking, roller blading, skateboarding and now snowboarding :(.

I've broken just about everything on my left side of my body.  I broke my left arm jumping off a picnic table when I was 3, I broke my left thumb and wrist hitting a hole on my bicycle coming down a partially paved road and flew over the handle bars.  Also resulted in alot of missing skin on knees. I then dislocated my left shoulder in another bike wreck, then tore up my left knee and fractured left leg in football.  I never knew it until about 2 years ago.. but somewhere along the line I also broke my left elbow.   I was having sharp pains shooting through my arm and felt like a knife stabbing me at night in my arm.   Went to the doctor and they actually asked to share the x-ray with student/residents because they never saw it before.  One of the 'balls', for lack of a better word, on my elbow as just floating attached with scar tissue.  My main nerve was being pinched closed by the scar tissue and was causing my left forearm and hand to 'waste'.  The surgery helped (took 2 hours longer than scheduled), they relocated the nerve, but I always wondered why my left hand was somewhat smaller than my right.  The doctor says I probably broke it playing a sport as a kid but never knew it and the scar tissue just built up over the years and started to pinch the nerve severely.   None of the doctors/surgeons I saw said they would touch my broken elbow 'ball'... as long as it's not causing a problem, etc.. leave it alone.   :-\

So my favorite activity is left side body damage.  ;)

I can't speak for Jeff, but I'm not sure I want my ugly golf swing photographed.  If I saw what my swing looked like, I'm sure I'd want to change it.  However, I guess I should carry one of my cameras with me just in case. by some dumb luck, I get another hole-in-one.

My husband and I ride recumbent trikes..in tandem sometimes.  We do long rides ..10, 20, 50, miles.  The longest I've ridden is 60 miles at the MS 150 City to Shore in 2006.  I had an ankle injury that popped up on the ride and I couldn't go the full 75 miles.  We ride in our area as well as pack our trikes on a trailer and in my Outback along with our Yorkie, Brutus.  We had a special basket made for him that attaches to the back of my trike.  We are quite a sight!!  But, we have fun.

I also work out with weights and ride indoors in spin class.  I would love to bring my camera to the gym, but I'm afraid people will freak out.  (I haven't asked permission yet.)  I did meet a potential bodybuilding "model" when I belonged to LA Fitness (I'm now an HPC member).  I could get in touch with him to see if he would be interested to pose for the group.  He said "yes" to me, but I never followed through with the assignment.  I wanted to photograph him in the gym and he was too embarassed to do that.  Then, he got busy with school, and then I changed gyms, and then...nothing happened.  Oh, well.

Here is our chariot:

Thanks, Ric!  What am I doing wrong?  I copied the "stuff" from Flickr and then pasted and all I got was the URL instead of the photo.  (That learning curve, again)  ???

Great idea! I'm sure it will promote more use of the site.

My photography interest grew from my genealogy obsession....errr hobby.  :D
